Saudi Arabia: New penalties for employers

According to the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development (MHRSD), a series of statutory fines are to be introduced for such offences as employing foreign workers without a permit (SR5,000/US$1,333); negligent on-site accidents (SR1,500/US$400 to SR5,000/US$1,333); hiring minors (SR1,000/US$267 to SR2,000/US$533); employing women in the first six weeks after childbirth and for withholding an employee passport or residency permit (both SR1,000/US$267); failure to pay wages when due (SR300/US$80) and gender discrimination SR3,000/US$800) …
