UK: An unlikely tax haven

One of the ironies of Brexit is that it may be driving some companies to establish operations in the UK in order to avoid the hostile approach of the EU to tax deals done between companies and individual country governments. The OECD is also moving against companies that establish principal offices in small countries where they do not have substantial markets. The first major company to set up a non-US HQ in the UK during the post-Brexit era is McDonald’s. This follows an investigation into Luxembourg’s deal with the company which generated little or no tax on significant profits achieved since 2009.
