Malta: New maternity leave fund launched

The government of Malta has launched a new maternity leave fund. Employers now have to contribute 0.3% of the basic pay of every worker they employ — irrespective of the worker’s gender — to this fund. The fund will then be used to pay for maternity leave. The fund will be supervised by a board that is made of three employer representatives, one trade union representative and permanent secretaries of the Ministries of Finance and Employment Relations.
